One day after Mindframe captured the $1 million Stephen Foster S. (G1), Pin Up Betty gave her sire Constitution his second stakes winner of the weekend at Churchill Downs with a come-from-behind victory in the $175,000 Anchorage S. on Sunday, the last day of the spring meet.
Pin Up Betty, who won the Mint Julep S. (G3) on June 1, was favored in the 1 1/8-mile Anchorage. She was unhurried early and settled some eight lengths off the front-running Generous Lover, who got a half-mile in :47.09. The strung-out field began to bunch up entering the final turn, with Pin Up Betty launching a four-wide move to get within two lengths of the lead turning for home.
With a determined run, Pin Up Betty took the lead with a sixteenth to run and came home a three-quarter length winner over Duvet Day (IRE) in 1:48.16 on the firm turf.
“This one is for D.W.L.” said trainer Michael Maker, a one-time assistant to the legendary Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas, who sadly passed away on Sunday.
Pin Up Betty, owned by her breeder Three Diamonds Farm, is 4-6-1 in 17 starts, with earnings of $880,427.
After stellar weekend results, Constitution is now fifth on the 2025 General Sire list with $8.14 million in progeny earnings. He has a total of eight stakes winners and 13 stakes horses on the year.
