Fury Kapcori pulled away to a 1 1/4-length win in Fresno’s $75,000 Charlie Palmer Futurity S. on Saturday, giving Tiznow his eighth stakes winner of 2012. Tiznow has had another banner year at stud in 2012, with $5,534,396 in progeny earnings.
Fury Kapcori, who broke his maiden last time out at Golden Gate on Aug. 18, got away cleanly in the Palmer and sat just off the flank of the pace set by Anytime Magic. After six furlongs, Russell Baze called on the bay colt, and he overtook the leader in mid-stretch. Baze kept his mount to the task in the final furlong to finish the mile in 1:37.63 on a fast track.
A $100,000 yearling purchase at last September’s Keeneland sale, Fury Kapcori earned $45,050 for owners Rick Awtrey, George Todaro, and Jerry Hollendorfer, who also trains him. He has earned $61,000 with 2 wins in 3 starts.
The winner was bred in Kentucky by Diamond A Racing Corp. He is a full brother to Tiz Fiz, winner of the Grade 2 San Gorgonio H. at Santa Anita and a half-brother to Turf Paradise Derby winner Dixie Commander.
