First Down Under SW for Artie Schiller

Artie Schiller was represented by his first Australian bred stakes-winner on Nov. 12 when David Moodie’s homebred Secret Liaison scored a hard fought victory in the listed Twilight Glow S. at Betfair Park Sandown Racecourse. Secret Liaison held off the determined challenge of Miss Stellabelle by a short head.

“It was quite incredible, they were a good bunch of fillies there and she stood them up a bit of ground, probably not on the best ground down on the inside there,” said winning rider Michael Rodd.

A winner of a Sale racetrack maiden three starts back, Secret Liaison was a luckless fifth after a torrid run in a Listed race at Flemington at her most recent start.

“She went from a maiden, into an eight-day back-up at Caulfield and just got beaten,” co-trainer Matthew Ellerton said. “She had no luck at Flemington. It was a well-deserved win for her. She is a stakes winner now. She has gone from a maiden to a stakes win.”

Moved to WinStar Farm earlier in 2011, Artie Schiller ranks in the top 10 on the North America second-crop sire list. Artie Schiller will stand the 2012 season for $10,000, LFS&N.
