Speightstown yearlings topped by $700K filly at Keeneland

Leading sire Speightstown had two of the top 10-selling lots during the first day of the Sept. 14-26 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

The WinStar stallion’s top lot was hip No. 85, a filly consigned by Gainesway, agent and purchased for $700,000 by Joseph Allen. The filly is the first foal out of the Dynaformer mare Arania, who is a sister to U.A.E. Horse of the Year Festival of Light, millionaire Grade 1 winner Acoma, and Super Derby (G1) winner Arch.

Hip No. 26 went for $610,000 to Steve Young, agent, from the Warrendale Sales consignment. Out of the multiple graded stakes winner Wild Gams, the colt is a half-brother to graded stakes placed Almost Famous.

For the day, Speightstown had seven of his nine juveniles sell for at least $250,000 for an average of $350,555.

Speightstown has an additional 40 juveniles catalogued during the remainder of the Keeneland sale.
