The March 4 Barretts Select 2-year-old sale started off strong for WinStar stallion U S Ranger when hip No. 2, a bay colt, brought a winning bid of $160,000, thirty-two times his 2013 stud fee. Undefeated at two and a two-time champion in Europe, U S Ranger entered stud in 2010; his first foals are 2-year-olds of 2013
Consigned by Adrain Gonzalez’s Checkmate Thoroughbreds, the bay colt was purchased by Mulligan Maui Racing.
The Kentucky bred is out of Cherokee Sheik, whose one foal has six wins in nine starts and has earned $144,290. He comes from the same family as the immortal Dynaformer and Grade 1 winner Offlee Wild.
