U S Ranger weanling hits $190,000 mark at Keeneland November sale

Two-time champion U S Ranger logged his first six-figure weanling at auction at Keeneland’s November sale on Nov. 10 with hip No. 925, a bay colt, selling for $190,000.

The Kentucky-bred, out Affirmed Dancer, was consigned by Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services Inc. and purchased by Blanford Bloodstock. The colt is a half-brother to the stakes-winning mare La Gran Bailadora and the stakes-placed Affirmed Cat. La Gran Bailadora, winner of this year’s $100,000 Distorted Humor Kentucky Cup Distaff S. at Turfway Park, earned a free season to WinStar stallion Colonel John for the victory.

U S Ranger, who entered stud at WinStar Farm in 2010, was Ireland’s champion 3-year-old colt and older male the following year. He won stakes in Ireland and France and was second in the Group 1 July Cup in England. He also placed in the Grade 3 Inglewood H. at Hollywood Park at age 5.
