Constitution was the highlight of Wednesday’s closing day of the OBS March Sale of 2-year-olds in Training Sale when a pair of colts by the WinStar stallion sold for $675,000 and $625,000.
First up in the ring was hip No. 574, consigned by Sequel Bloodstock and purchased by agent Lauren Carlisle. Sequel had secured the chestnut colt for $200,000 at last year’s Keeneland September Yearling sale.
The colt, who had worked in 10 seconds flat at last week’s Under Tack Show, is out of Grade 3-placed Jungle Tale.
“We loved him,” Carlisle said after signing the ticket. “He’s a big, two-turn type colt. Obviously Constitution speaks for himself. He had a great breeze–one of the top breezes in my opinion, for the colts. We are very happy to get him.”
A little later in the session hip No. 612 was secured by Broadshorts Racing for $625,000. From the Pike Racing consignment, the dark bay colt is the second foal out of Grade 1-placed Libby’s Tail.
With eight lots sold during the three-day auction, Constitution’s sales average was $311,875. On the racetrack, Constitution already has 10 stakes horses and four stakes winners in 2023, both the highest among all sires of his generation.
