Five juveniles from the first crop of Super Saver brought an average of $400,000 at the March 24 Fasig-Tipton Florida sale of 2-year-olds. The gross receipts of $2 million led all sires at the prestigious one-day auction.
Topping the quintet was hip No. 130, a colt consigned by Niall Brennan Stables which sold for $750,000 to Alex Solis II and Jason Litt. The colt is out of the stakes-placed Cape Town mare Magdalena’s Chase and was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm. He breezed an eighth in :10 at the under tack preview.
“He was a perfect colt,” said Litt. “Niall loved that he never turned a hair.”
Solis and Litt also went to $400,000 for another Super Saver filly, hip No. 107 consigned by Eddie Woods. The filly is out of the Grade 3-placed stakes winner Gins Majesty.
Woods also sold Super Saver’s hip No. 4, a colt that went for $600,000 Alex and Joann Lieblong. The colt is out of the Sky Mesa mare Rateeba and comes from the same family as multiple graded stakes winners Dixie Union and Zavata.
To date, 17 first-crop juveniles have sold for Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, and his impressive average of $252,500 includes the highest-priced colt ($750,000) and highest-priced filly ($675,000) sold by a freshman sire of 2014.
