A colt from the first crop of multiple Grade 1 winner Yoshida hammered for $120,000 during Monday’s opening session of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearling sale, which runs daily through Thursday.

The bay colt, catalogued as hip No. 159, was consigned by Brookdale Sales, agent, and purchased by Ben McElroy, agent for trainer Wesley Ward.

“Very athletic colt, one of the best in the sale. When I saw him I immediately put Wesley on his page and he loved him too. He fits the bill of what we’re looking for,” said McElroy after signing the ticket.

The Kentucky-bred colt is out of the Quality Road mare Street Cruizer, who is a half-sister to stakes winner More Than a Cruise.

Yoshida was one of the more versatile horses in recent years, winning the Woodward S. (G1) on the main track and Old Forester Turf Classic (G1) on the grass. WinStar recently announced his 2023 fee at $10,000 S&N.

Yoshida has 13 additional lots in the catalogue for the three remaining days of the sale.
