Parchment Party splashes to victory in off-the-turf Belmont Gold Cup (G3)

Constitution got his seventh stakes winner of 2025 Friday at a rainy Saratoga Racecourse when Parchment Party rolled to an 8 ½-length victory in the $250,000 Belmont Gold Cup (G3).

Originally scheduled at two miles on the turf, the race was moved to the main track and run at 1 ¾-miles.

Parchment Party, who had never run on an off track, was away last in the field of eight and was still near the back of the pack as the field went under the wire the first time. Going into the last of three turns, Parchment Party had moved up into fourth while running three-wide. By the time he turned for home, Parchment Party had caught a loose-on-the-lead Yo Daddy and quickly opened up a two-length advantage in upper stretch. He continued to widen his margin down the lane and was all alone at the finish.

The victory earned Parchment Party an automatic berth in this year’s Melbourne Cup in Australia, but his trainer Bill Mott said the colt is unlikely to travel due to his preference for the main track.

The victory, his first in a stakes, improved Parchment Party’s record to 3-1-1 in 10 starts, with earnings of $329,101 for owner Pin Oak Stud LLC.

Bred by Bobby Flay Thoroughbreds in Kentucky, Parchment Party sold for $450,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

In the top 10 on this year’s General Sire list, Constitution has over $6.4 million in progeny earnings to date. His leading runner this year is Grade 1 winner Mindframe.
