Take Charge Tom first graded winner for WinStar’s Tom’s d’Etat

Take Charge Tom unleashed a big run in the final quarter-mile of the $200,000 Canadian Derby (G3) to give the 3-year-old son of Tom’s d’Etat his first graded stakes win and his fifth overall stakes win.

The dark bay, who is the first graded winner for Tom’s d’Etat, was an impressive 5 ¾-length winner in the 1 ¼-mile race. He sat in fourth most of the trip before rallying up the inside at the top of the stretch, then after taking over, quickly opened up on the field to win going away.

Take Charge Tom is owned and bred by Randy Howg and is trained by Robertino Diodoro. With the win, Take Charge Tom is 6-0-1 in nine starts and has earned $334,724.
