Dac rallies to snag Prairie Bayou S.

Dac, a 5-year-old son of Distorted Humor, captured his second straight running of Turfway Park’s $50,000 Prairie Bayou S. on Dec. 17.

Dac has done most of his running on the turf while amassing $205,755 in earnings, but has shown his affinity for Turfway’s synthetic surface, winning three of his four starts over the northern Kentucky oval.

As he did in last year’s Prairie Bayou, Dac settled well off the pace early on after breaking from the inside post in the field of 11. Rodney Prescott finally moved off the fence going into the far turn, and Dac accelerated past horses four wide to challenge Luck of the Kitten for the lead at the top of the lane.

The pacesetter was game in the stretch, but Dac got the best of him to win by a head in 1:42.76 for the 1 1/16-miles, just a half-second off the track record.

Bred by Wertheimer and Frere, Dac is out of Grade 1 winner Corrazona and is a half-brother to multiple graded stakes winner Olmodavor. The winner is owned by Sarinana Racing LLC.

One of the most important sires in recent memory, Distorted Humor continues to be the leading active North American sire by percentage of lifetime stakes winners from starters, at 12.1%. He will stand next year at WinStar Farm for a fee of $80,000 stands and nurses.
