Global Campaign leads all the way in the Woodward (G1)

Sagamore Farm and WinStar Farm’s Global Campaign turned in a career-defining performance in Saturday’s $500,000 Woodward H. (G1) at Saratoga, leading the entire 1 1/4-mile trip for his first Grade 1 victory.

Winner of the Peter Pan S. (G3) in 2019 and Monmouth Cup (G3) this year, 4-year-old Global Campaign has earned $781,080 and won six of nine career starts.

Global Campaign, under Luis Saez, got out of the gate very well and had a one-length lead over Tacitus after the first half-mile. The margin narrowed after six furlongs in 1:11.90. Tacitus tried to make the lead in upper stretch, but Global Campaign rebuked his challenger and drew off late to win by two lengths in 2:01.40 on the fast track.

“I’m more than satisfied. He beat a good horse,” said winning trainer Stan Hough. “We’re all excited. It’s a great win. That’s what the game is all about. You try to develop horses that will go on and be a sire and I believe he’ll make a good one.”

Global Campaign was bred by WinStar Farm.

Pedigree Notes from the TDN

What a mare. It’s been well documented that the winning A.P. Indy mare Globe Trot produced only three foals before passing away in 2016, but Global Campaign’s Woodward win pushed her into rare territory indeed: two Grade I winners, including young stallion Bolt d’Oro , plus MSW & MGSP Sonic Mule (Distorted Humor) from those three foals. Sold as a yearling for $100,000 in 2009, Globe Trot hails from the longtime Claiborne family of MGSW Trip (Lord At War {Arg}) and SW Tour (Forty Niner).
