Huge opening day at OBS 2yo Sale for Carpe Diem

A pair of juveniles by First-Crop sire Carpe Diem were among the top sellers for Freshman sires during Tuesday’s session of the March 12-13 OBS 2-year-olds in Training sale in Ocala.

Topping the day was the stallion’s very first lot to go through the ring: Hip No. 68, consigned by Tom McCrocklin, agent, was secured by Katsumi Yoshida for $250,000. The filly is out of Cabaret Starlet, whose half-sister Arravale was Horse of the Year and Champion Grass Mare in Canada.

Later in the session, hip No. 261 was sold by Wavertree Stables to Louie Roussell III for $245,000. The colt’s dam Just Waiting has four stakes-winning siblings, including a pair of graded stakes winner.

Carpe Diem finished the day with a sales average of $190,000, over 7.5 times his stud fee. He has three lots in Wednesday’s closing session of the auction.
