Laura’s Light garners second graded win in the Honeymoon S. (G3)

Constitution’s stellar 3-year-old turf filly Laura’s Light got a great trip under Abel Cedillo to win the $100,000 Honeymoon S. (G3) by a neck over Stela Star (IRE) Saturday at Santa Anita Park.

Winner of the Sweet Life S. (G3) over the same turf course in February, Laura’s Light has won four of her six starts and earned $214,370 for her owner Gary Barber.

After breaking on top in the 1 1/8-mile contest, Laura’s Light ceded the lead to Parkour, who opened up by more than 10 lengths after a half-mile in :46.98. On the final turn, Parkour began to slow, and Laura’s Light quickly assumed command, then out-ran Stela Star to win by a neck in 1:49.02 on the firm turf.

“She’s a gutty little filly and I can’t say enough about the ride Abel gave her,” said trainer Peter Miller. “It was a world class ride. Great judge of pace and knowing when to push the button, that was Abel today. We’ve got a lot of options with her. Del Mar’s all about turf racing for 3-year-olds and we’re looking forward to it.”

Bred in Kentucky by Golden Pedigree LLC, Laura’s Light is out of stakes-placed Light of a Star and is a half-sister to the stakes winner Barry Lee.

Constitution is the leading Second-Crop sire of 2020, with more than $1.7 million in progeny earnings to date. Among his leading runners are Tiz the Law, winner of the Florida Derby (G1) and a leading Triple Crown candidate, Independence Hall, winner of the Jerome S. (G3), and Gouverneur Morris, who was third in the Arkansas Derby (G1).
