Tiz the Law continues historic year with a Travers S. (G1) victory

Tiz the Law’s extended his undefeated season with another magnificent performance in Saturday’s $1 million Travers S. (G1) at Saratoga.

The 3-year-old Constitution colt collected Grade 1 wins in the Belmont S. and Florida Derby earlier this year and surpassed the $2 million earnings mark with Saturday’s win. Constitution is North America’s leading Second-Crop sire with more than $3.6 million in progeny earnings to date.

Tiz the Law solidified his spot as the nation’s leading 3-year-old colt and prohibitive favorite for the Sept. 5 Kentucky Derby (G1) with his 5 1/2-length victory on Saturday. After stalking Uncle Chuck through the first seven furlongs, Tiz the Law easily went past the pacesetter, then poured it on in the stretch, eventually being geared down late when the win was certain.

Despite being eased up, he finished the 1 1/4-miles in a very good 2:00.95.

“I just could not be happier,” said Jack Knowlton, the managing partner of Sackatoga Stable, which owns Tiz the Law. “Just being able to be here and seeing him take command and then watching (jockey Manny Franco) gear him down … gearing him down in a million-dollar race at Saratoga. That is pretty incredible.”

Tiz the Law will now make his way to Churchill Downs to prepare for the Derby.

“I don’t think we’ll change a whole lot,” said trainer Barclay Tagg of the colt’s plans. We’ll give him 10 days of easiness and then get a few more breezes in him before we go out there. That’s about all we can do.”

Tiz the Law was bred in New York by Twin Creeks Farm. His dam Tizfiz was a Grade 2 winner and is from the family of Horse of the Year Favorite Trick.
