Class President wins thriller in $1 million Rebel S. (G2)

Class President carried the WinStar silks to a heart-stopping victory in Sunday’s $1 million Rebel S. (G2) at Oaklawn Park, just nosing out a hard-charging Silent Tactic in a very tight photo.

The 3-year-old colt picked up his first 50 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby (G1), placing him in a tie for second on the eligibility list for the May 2nd Run for the Roses.

Owned by WinStar in partnership with First Go Racing and CHC, Inc., Class President was making his two-turn debut on Sunday. He was between horses in a three-way battle for the lead before settling in second behind favored Litmus Test going onto the backstretch.

After stalking the leader for the next half-mile, Class President surged to the lead at the top of the stretch. He was immediately confronted by Silent Tactic, who got his head in front inside the final furlong. Class President still had more to give, though, and got his nose in front in the final few strides to secure the win.

Class President is now 2-1-0 in three starts and has earned $593,700. The bay son of Uncle Mo was second in the Swale S. on Jan. 31.

Class President was bred by WinStar Farm, LLC and is out of the three-time stakes winner Top Quality.
