Multiple Grade 1-producing sire Constitution saw another major 2-year-old purchase this year when Hip 55 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale commanded $975,000 in the sales ring.
The dark bay colt went an eighth-mile in 10.3 seconds at the under track show, and was bought by Marquee Bloodstock from the Grade One Investments consignment. He is out of the unraced Orb broodmare Chic, who was a $750,000 Saratoga yearling and a half-sister to Graded stakes winner Corfu as well as New York Central – a stakes winner in the United States and Saudi Arabia. The dam has four foals of racing age, including winner Structured who is a full-brother to Hip 55. Bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall, Carrie Brogden, and Craig Brogden, he comes from the same family as three-time Grade 1-winning multimillionaire Peace Rules.
Ramiro Restrepo of Marquee Bloodstock spoke highly of the newly acquired colt.
“This colt was strong, stout, agile and professional,” Restrepo said. “Mentally, he showed himself proudly from the first to the last day. Constitution is a monster stallion, and we hope this colt will join the likes of Tiz the Law, Independence Hall, Mindframe, and company in the near future.”
Constitution ranks amongst the leading North American sires in 2-year-old sales results. Other prominent juvenile purchases by Constitution include a filly bought for $675,000 at OBS April for C R K Stable as well as a $500,000 filly at OBS March that was acquired by Frank Fletcher Racing Operations.
