Tiznow got his second TDN Rising Star in eight days on Saturday when Donworth battled to a neck victory in his debut at Gulfstream Park.
Facing a full field of 3-year-olds in the seven furlong maiden special weight outing, Donworth was off a step slow, but made his way up the rail to get just behind the pace set by Sir Alfred. Going into the turn, the leader shut off Donworth, causing Joel Rosario to check significantly.
With Donworth boxed in around the turn, Rosario finally found a seam to the outside. Down the stretch, Donworth ranged up on the outside of Sir Alfred, eventually wearing him down to prevail.
Donworth stopped the timer in an excellent 1:23.75.
Donworth is out of the Grade 1-placed mare Temple Street. He was bred by K.C. Garrett Farm LLC and is owned by Regis Racing.
Tiznow, who’s brilliant maiden winner Kentuckian was named a TDN Rising Star last week, is the sire of leading Kentucky Derby (G1) contender Royal Son, recent winner of the $125,000 John Battaglia Memorial.
