Diamond Dust skipped over the sloppy Thistledown surface to win Saturday’s $100,000 Honey Jay S. by 1 ¾-lengths. The victory was the fifth added-money victory for the son of Paytner, who has seven stakes horses this year and has accounted for 50 stakes horses lifetime.
Diamond Dust was three-wide for most of the six furlong trip, battling for the lead through a half-mile in :45.68. He wrested the lead from Fair and Square with about a furlong to run, then drew clear late to finish up in 1:11 flat on a sealed racetrack.
Owned by Sam Klein, Jr. Diamond Dust has 16 lifetime wins and has earned $636,156. The bay 7-year-old was bred by Blazing Meadows Farm and WinStar Farm LLC and hails from the family of champion Arazi and Grade 1 winner Joyeux Danseur.
