Super Saver’s Runhappy nominated for three Eclipse Awards

Super Saver’s leading 3-year-old Runhappy was named a finalist in three categories for the 2015 Eclipse Awards when nominees were announced Wednesday morning at Gulfstream Park. The Eclipse champions will be announced during a ceremony at Gulfstream Jan. 16.

A winner of a trio of Grade 1 sprints in 2015, Runhappy is the favorite to take home the Male Sprinter Eclipse, while he has the unenviable task of facing Triple Crown champion American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) in both the Horse of the Year and 3-year-old Male categories.

Runhappy’s star shone brightest on the Breeders’ Cup stage, when he powered to victory in the Sprint (G1). Prior to that performance, he took both the King’s Bishop S. (G1) by four lengths and the Phoenix S. (G3), then wrapped up 2015 with a visually stunning effort in winning the Malibu S. (G1) by 3 ½-lengths on Dec. 26. His lifetime record now stands at seven wins from eight starts with earnings of $1,481,300. The colt was a $200,000 grad of the 2013 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

Runhappy helped Super Saver finish 2015 as the number one Second-Crop Sire by Graded stakes winners, Grade 1 winners and Grade 1 horses.

Super Saver is standing the 2016 season at WinStar Farm for $65,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
