Congrats filly soars in Cut the Charm S.

Jerry Bozzo’s homebred 2-year-old filly Flutterby cruised to victory in Saturday’s $50,000 Cut the Charm S. at Calder to give her sire Congrats his third juvenile stakes winner of the year, which is among the top 10 for all 2-year-old sires.

Racing in blinkers for the first time in four starts, Flutterby stalked the early pace set by Pomeroy Angle, opened up by five lengths in mid-stretch, then held off a late move by Side Street to win by a length in 1:05.67 for the five and one half furlongs (VIDEO).

Bozzo bred Flutterby from his mare Zoobie, who also produced the two-time stakes winner Zoobstick. Flutterby has now won two of four outings, earning $51,910.

Congrats, whose runners have topped $3.1 million in earnings to date this year, will stand the 2014 season at WinStar for $35,000 LFS&N.
