“Big Day” stakes double for Constitution at Churchill Downs

On a stakes-filled card Saturday at Churchill Downs, Constitution tallied a pair of black type winners and moved into sixth on the 2026 General Sire list with over $8.4 million progeny earnings to date.

Harrodsburg took the $275,000 Bango S. (G3) in front-running style for his first career stakes win, while Pin Up Betty collected her fourth added-money victory in the $275,000 Anchorage S.

In the 6 ½-furlong Bango, Harrodsburg sprung quickly out of the gate and clicked off a quarter-mile of :22.90 and a half in :45.36, with Built a length behind. Under constant pressure from Built the rest of the way, Harrodsburg would not be denied and held a half-length at advantage at the wire.

“He’s been a project for us, but the thing that’s so impressive about him is that he tries so hard every time,” trainer Mike Tomlinson said. “He’s very dangerous when he gets on the lead like he did today and battles every step of the way.

Harrodsburg’s time of 1:15.95 on the sloppy track was good for a Beyer Speed Figure of 103, the third time the bay 6-year-old has topped the century mark.

Harrodsburg, who is now 7-3-3 in 19 starts, is owned by Rod and Bud Hatfield and was bred by Twin Creeks Farm in Kentucky.

A couple of hours earlier, Pin Up Betty duplicated her victory in the 2025 Anchorage coming from well off the pace to score a two-length victory over Way to Be Marie in the 1 1/8-mile race on the “good” turf.

“She has a knack for winning this race,” trainer Mike Maker said. “I’m glad she was able to get the job done again this year. Flavien gave her a good trip. Last time (in the May 30th Mint Julep S.) the race was void of speed and we asked her to do something she really didn’t want to do.”

Pin Up Betty is owned and was bred by Kirk Wycoff’s Three Diamonds Farm. The 5-year-old is 5-6-2 in 24 starts and has earned $1,212,015.
