Good Heart’s powerful stretch run carried the 2-year-old son of Good Samaritan to a 3 ¾-length win in a $156,000 maiden special weight contest Saturday at Kentucky Downs WATCH RACE.
Good Heart was making his career debut in the one-mile affair. He was away very well from post seven to press the leader Dust Storm through the first half-mile in :46.43. Taking his cue from his jockey at the top of the long stretch, Good Heart responded immediately and turned away Fire Baron with a furlong to go, going on to win with authority in 1:36.16 on the firm turf.
The winner is owned by Rebecca Hillen and Stonecrest Farm and was bred in Kentucky by Scott and Debbie Pierce.
The chestnut colt is out of Shoe Queen, who is a half-sister to millionaire and two-time Grade 1 winner On Fire Baby, and a full sister to Grade 2 winner High Heels.
Good Samaritan, a multiple graded stakes winner of more than $1.3 million, now has five winners from his first crop. Good Samaritan’s next sales offerings will come next week at Keeneland’s September Yearling sale, where he has 18 individuals in the catalog.
