Distorted Humor’s Khozan has become the hottest 3-year-old on the Triple Crown trail in Florida, with two dominating victories during the Gulfstream Park meet, the latest coming Sunday at the Hallandale oval.
Khozan was away in good order in the one mile contest, with a couple lengths of the lead for the first quarter mile. Javier Castellano got to the rail and the lead entering the turn, and with a quarter mile to run, left the field behind.
Cruising through the lane all alone, Khozan won by 12 ¾-lengths in 1:38.07.
“Unbelievable. That’s what we live for with the horses,” Castellano said. “I always like to see horses like that. The way he did it today was so easy. He’s a brilliant horse.”
Khozan, out of Delta Princess, is a half-sister to champion Royal Delta. The dark bay colt has won both of his starts with ease, breaking his maiden by 3 ¾-lengths Jan. 24, earning a 103 Beyer Speed Figure.
“It was another very impressive performance,” trainer Todd Pletcher said of Sunday’s race. “It was what we were hoping for, but we were glad to see it all the same. He got a little bit of an education today and did some things he didn’t do in his debut.”
“I think the logical next race would probably be the Florida Derby (G1, March 28),” Pletcher added.
Khozan topped off a weekend for Distorted that included the 4-year-old filly House Rules winning the $100,000 Rampart S. (G3), also at Gulfstream.
