Treason, making his first start of the year, turned in a banner effort to take the June 4 Eclipse S. (G2) at Woodbine by 1 ½-lengths over Tyson.
The 5-year-old son of Constitution was making his first start since early November, when he was beaten just two lengths over this same track in the Autumn S. (G2).
Away alertly from post seven, Treason was three-wide around the first turn, but no more than a length off the top duo of Wolfie’s Dynaghost and War Bomber (IRE). Treason continued in the three path on the backstretch and around the final turn, when he made a sudden move to take the lead outside the quarter pole. Carrothers gave chase in the stretch, but could get no closer than the final margin.
“He’s a natural speed horse, that’s why when I get on him in the morning, I just try and take it easy,” said jockey Kazushi Kimura. “Today, he was really comfortable beside the horse in the backstretch. Everything was going smooth. I was just trying to make sure to stay with Johnny’s (Velazquez) horse (Wolfie’s Dynaghost), but he really exploded and picked it up really quick from the three-eighths.”
Bred in Kentucky by Ramspring Farm, Treason tallied his first stakes win, and is now 3-0-0 from seven starts for his owners LNJ Foxwoods and MSK Racing Ventures.
Treason is out of the stakes-winning mare Cougarstown and his a half-brother to stakes winner Elevenses.
Treason topped off a great first weekend in June for Constitution that also included Webslinger winning the $225,000 Audubon S. at Churchill Downs and Niquense (CHI) capturing a Grade 2 in his home country.
