Constitution’s Conman earns first stakes win in style

Conman bounded away from the field in Sunday’s $100,000 Hamilton S. at Woodbine tor register a 3 ¼-length victory in what was the first stakes win for the 3-year-old son of Constitution.

Constitution now has 45 black type winners worldwide and nearly 100 stakes horses total. The WinStar stallion has nine stakes horses this year, and ranks third on the Fifth-Crop sire list with over $5.8 million in progeny earnings.

Conman, making his first stakes start of the year, was third behind Sir Lancelot for the first five furlongs of the 7 ½-furlong trip. When asked for run nearing the stretch, Conman responded willingly to take command outside the furlong marker. He drew away easily to stop the timer in 1:28.65 on the firm turf, less than a second off the track record.

With the win, Conman is now 3-2-0 in 10 starts and has earned $181,592 for D. J. Stable LLC, who purchased the dark bay at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton New York Preferred Yearlings sale.

Conman was bred by Fred W. Hertrich III and John D. Fielding.
