Freshman yearling sire Life Is Good made a strong showing in his first representation at public auction at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale, which was spearheaded by a half-sister to Grade 1 Preakness S. winner Seize the Grey that went to Repole Stable for $1.025 million.
Campaigned by WinStar Farm in partnership with CHC, Inc., Life Is Good was a four-time Grade 1-winner, capturing the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile against elders at 3, before winning the Pegasus World Cup, Whitney S., and Woodward S. during his 4-year-old season. His 112 Beyer Speed Figure in the Grade 2 John A. Nerud at Belmont Park remains the highest of any son of Into Mischief at stud.
Listed as Hip 209, the bay filly is out of the Smart Strike mare Smart Shopping and was consigned by Mill Ridge Sales. In addition to Seize the Grey, the filly is also a half-sister to Black-type placed Shoppingforpharoah. She was one of a three Life Is Good yearlings at the sale acquired by Repole, who also went to $500,000 for a filly out of Graded stakes-winner Seek and Destroy (Hip 197) and $350,000 for a filly out of multiple Graded stakes-placed Dreaming of Drew (Hip 84).
“I’m really high on Life Is Good,” Repole said. “We’re excited to have them. They look great, we bred five or six mares ourselves. Next year, I’m probably going to have 10 Life Is Goods at the track.”
Life Is Good has attracted the attention from more of the industry’s most prominent buyers, with the likes of White Birch Farm, Spendthrift Farm, Bradley Thoroughbreds, and Centennial Farms all buying a Life Is Good yearling at the sale.
