2nd winner for Kodiak Kowboy

First-crop sire Kodiak Kowboy got his second winner on Saturday when the 2-year-old filly I Will Be Free strode to a 2 1/2-length maiden special weight victory at Calder Race Course.

Second in her first outing on three weeks ago, I Will Be Free picked up $21,100 for her owner Champion Equine LLC. Champion purchase the filly for $115,000 out of the 2013 OBS Select 2-year-old sale in March.

The winner is out of the Grade 3 placed mare Mrs. M.

Kodiak Kowboy, a champion at two in Canada and champion sprinter at four in the United States, won $1,663,363 in a career that saw the stellar speedster win or place in 16 stakes. He was at his best at four, winning a trio of Grade 1 events: Vosburgh S., Carter H., and Cigar Mile H. He currently ranks seventh on the 2013 Freshman Sire list.
