$425,000 Paynter colt at Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream sale

Paynter, whose first crop of foals will be racing in 2017, was well-represented by a member of that crop during Wednesday’s Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale when hip No. 117 sold for $425,000.

Steven Young, agent, was the winning bidder for the bay colt consigned by SVG Thoroughbreds. The colt’s dam, Perfect Wave, is responsible for the multiple stakes winner La Rocca.

The Kentucky-bred colt had breezed an eighth-mile in :10.1 seconds, just a tick off the fastest time of the day, at the Feb. 27 Under Tack show.

Paynter’s first crop of yearlings in 2016 were some of the most sought after by any sire represented by their initial crop, including a $520,000 lot that was the second-most paid for a colt by a freshman sire in 2016.
