Maimonides colt takes second straight stakes

Brewing, winner of the $100,000 Gazebo S. March 22 at Oaklawn Park, captured his second consecutive black-type event on Friday with a game half-length score in the $100,000 Bachelor S., also at the central Arkansas track.

The 3-year-old son of Maimonides, a Zayat Stables homebred trained by D. Wayne Lukas, was ridden to victory by Jon Court. Involved in a four way battle for the lead for the first half-mile, Brewing shook clear at the head of the lane, then dug in to hold sway, getting the six furlongs in a lively 1:10.06 on a fast track (VIDEO).

Brewing is the third foal, all who are winners, out of the unraced Johannesburg mare Fifty Mil Short. His overall record now stands at 3-0-0 in seven starts, with earnings of $154,931.

Brewing is Maimonides leading earner in 2014 and has helped propel the WinStar stallion into the top 10 on the Second-crop sire list. He is one of only three sophomore sires to have multiple progeny stakes wins to his credit.
