Spring at Last filly breaks maiden by 10

Spring in the Air looked like a star with her 10 1/4-length score to break her maiden Saturday at Woodbine. The WinStar Farm LLC-bred is the fifth winner for her sire Spring at Last. The first-crop stallion has five winners and over $200,000 in progeny earnings, placing him second on the Freshman Sire list.

Going six furlongs on the synthetic track at Woodbine, Spring in the Air got hung three-wide around the turn, but worked her way to the lead slightly after three furlongs, then drew away with ease to stop the timer in a very good 1:10.94.

Spring in the Air was consigned by Eddie Woods at the March OBS Select 2-year-old sale, bringing a winning bid of $130,000 from John Oxley, her current owner.  The Canadian-bred filly is out of Unbridled Run, a half-sister to $1.1 million earner Tejano Run, a five-time graded stakes winner who was second in the Kentucky Derby (G1).
