WinStar Farm, China Horse Club and SF Racing teamed up to win the first running of the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint with the brilliant colt Bulletin, who led the 5 1/2-furlong race from gate-to-wire, winning by 2 3/4-lengths.
Obviously highly-regarded from the outset, Bulletin broke his maiden by seven lengths in his debut in the Hollywood Beach S. at Gulfstream Park on Sept. 29. Sent off the 4-1 second choice on Friday, he sprung out of the gate remarkably quick to assume command. Chelsea Cloisters gave chase, but could never get to the front, with Bulletin pulling away in the final furlong to stop the timer in 1:05.54 on the yielding turf.
“He broke really well and was sharp,” winning trainer Todd Pletcher said. “He took it to them the whole way. It was a big race. We wanted to leave there running. He finished up nicely; nothing like winning one.”
Bred in Kentucky by CresRan, Bulletin is out of the grade 3-winning mare Sue’s Good News. The winner is a half brother to Grade 1 winner Tiz Miz Sue. Maverick Racing and China Horse Club paid $250,000 for Bulletin at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale from Paramount Sales, agent.
Bulletin has earned $595,570 in his two victories.
