Constitution colt much the best in $100,000 Sugar Bowl S.

Legalize made his stakes debut a winning one on Dec. 23 at Fair Grounds with a 2 ¾-length victory in the $100,000 Sugar Bowl S. for 2-year-olds.

The chestnut juvenile is one of Constitution’s four 2-year-old stakes winners this year. The WinStar stallion is in the top 15 on the 2023 General Sire list and ranks second on the 2-year-old list with nearly $2.8 million in progeny earnings and 31 individual winners of 38 races.

Legalize, who broke his maiden Nov. 25 at Churchill Downs, broke well in the Sugar Bowl and was in a three-way battle for the lead through a quarter-mile in :22.09. He held his spot while three-wide around the turn and into the stretch. With rider Brian Hernandez, Jr. urging him on, he began to pull clear with a furlong to go and came home very strongly to win going away in 1:10.56 for the six furlongs on a fast track.

Legalize was bred by Stud TNT and is a half-brother to stakes winner Workaholic and a pair of stakes-placed winners, while second dam Summerly won the Kentucky Oaks (G1). Legalize sold for $500,000 at the 2023 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale in April.

Legalize is owned by Twin Brook Stables, Belladonna Racing, LLC, Nice Guys Stables, West Point Thoroughbreds, Iapetus Racing, Hornstock, S., Runnels Racing, Perrine Time Thoroughbreds, R T R Stables, LLC, Peppermint Stables, LLC and Manganaro Bloodstock.
