Constitution’s Glass Ceiling rises up to win the Barbara Fritchie S. (G3)

Glass Ceiling earned her first graded stakes victory on Saturday afternoon at Laurel Park with an ultra-game effort in the Barbara Fritchie S. (G3). The win was the first graded score for the 5-year-old daughter of Constitution, who has won four of her last five starts, including the Garland of Roses S. at Aqueduct in December.

Constitution, last year’s leading Third-Crop sire, has already accounted for eight stakes horses in 2022 and leads the Fourth-Crop list in that category, as well as by winners and graded stakes horses.

Glass Ceiling was off a beat slow in Saturday’s seven-furlong race, but quickly recovered to be just a half-length behind Jakarta after a quarter-mile in :23.08. The duo would be nearly inseparable the rest of the trip, with Jakarta holding the edge until midstretch, when Glass Ceiling took a slim lead. At the wire, she was a half-length in front of her foe to stop the timer in 1:23.82 on a fast main track.

“The distance was the main thing why we came here. I was looking for a graded stake while she was running good, and this was the obvious race,” trainer Charlton Baker said. “It was close. She’s a fighter, so I was confident.”

Glass Ceiling has a solid record of 7-6-4 in 25 lifetime starts and has earned $531,012. She is owned by her trainer along with Michael Foster.
