Tiznow’s dynamic 2-year-old colt Dennis’ Moment was made the morning line favorite for Friday’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Santa Anita, where he will face seven foes after the scratch of Maxfield.
Tiznow also has a very intriguing entry with Blue Chipper in the $1 million Dirt Mile (G1). Blue Chipper has won all five of his starts in Korea this year by a combined 42 lengths.
Dennis’ Moment
After losing his rider at the start in his June 23 debut at Churchill, Dennis’ Moment broke his maiden by an eye-popping 19 1/4-lengths at Ellis Park, then returned to Churchill to take the Iroquois S. (G3) by two lengths under a hand ride.
Dennis’ Moment will be ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr. for trainer Dale Romans. He was purchased by his owner Albaugh Family Stables LLC for $400,000 out of the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling sale. Dennis’ Moment was bred by Tolo Thoroughbreds and is the first foal out of the Elusive Quality mare Transplendid.
The Juvenile is race 9 on Friday, with a post time of 4:03 p.m. PT.
Blue Chipper
Four-year-old Blue Chipper is a Grade 1 winner in Korea and a definite unknown quantity. In his lone start at a mile, he won the Owner’s Cup (G3) by 10 lengths. He drew post 8 in the Mile’s 10-horse field and will be ridden by Flavien Prat.
Bred in Kentucky by Diamond A Racing, Blue Chipper is out of Demoiselle S. (G2) winner Dixie City and hails from the family of multiple Grade 1 winner Dehere.
The Dirt Mile is race 6 on Saturday with a post time of 1:10 p.m. PT.
Tiznow, still the only two-time winner of the Breeeders’ Cup Classic (G1), is the sire of Breeders’ Cup winners Folklore (Juvenile Fillies) and Tourist, who was the fastest winner of the Mile (G1) ever and is currently standing stud at WinStar along side his sire.
