First foal a filly for WinStar Farm’s Grade 1 winner Tom’s d’Etat

WinStar Farm’s Grade 1-winning millionaire Tom’s d’Etat sired his first reported foal when a filly produced from the winning Cross Traffic mare Today Comes Once was born Sunday, Jan. 16 at Waldorf Farm. The gray filly, who hails from the family of Grade 1 winner Strategic Maneuver, Grade 2 stakes winner Cat Fighter, and multiple stakes winner Good Luck Gus, was bred by Steven Wecker, Alfred Riccio, Keith Riccio, Patrick Brown, and Bill Achenbaum.

“Lovely filly. Solid bone,” said Kenny Toye, manager of Waldorf Farm. “Excited for her owners and happy to have some more Smart Strike blood in New York.”

A Grade 1-winning millionaire by sire of sires Smart Strike, Tom’s d’Etat was a dominant 3 ¼-length winner of the 2019 Clark S. (G1) at Churchill Downs, running a 105 Beyer Speed Figure. He won the 2020 Stephen Foster S. (G2) in a brilliant performance that saw him cover 1 1/8 miles in an eye-catching 1:47.30 geared down in the late stages. The sparkling effort earned a career-best 109 Beyer and the final time came within a whisker of Victory Gallop’s track and stakes record of 1:47.28 set in 1999. In his start prior to the Clark, Tom’s d’Etat was a runaway 4 ¼-length winner of the Fayette S. (G2) at Keeneland, earning a 105 Beyer.

All told, Tom’s d’Etat won 11 races, six of them stakes, and recorded 10 triple-digit Beyers, including nine in a row, en route to amassing earnings of $1,762,272 in an illustrious racing career for GMB Racing and trainer Al Stall.

By sire of sires and two-time Leading Sire Smart Strike, Tom’s d’Etat, a $330,000 Keeneland September Sale graduate bred by SF Bloodstock, is out of the stakes-winning and multiple stakes-placed Giant’s Causeway mare Julia Tuttle, who is produced from a full sister to Pacific Classic (G1) winner and leading sire Candy Ride (ARG).

Tom’s d’Etat is standing his second season at stud for $12,500 S&N. For more information about Tom’s d’Etat, contact Liam O’Rourke, Olivia Desch, or Gareth Wigley at 859-873-1717.
