Okiro an impressive debut MdSpWt winner for Yoshida

Yoshida tallied another debut winner on July 28 at Gulfstream Park when the 2-year-old colt Okiro went nearly gate-to-wire in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight contest.

After breaking just behind the speed, the dark bay colt quickly found his stride to lead every point of call thereafter. He brushed off a challenge by Full Nelson in upper stretch and went on to win by nearly two lengths in a sharp effort.

Okiro is owned by Yutaka Enterprises Corp. and was bred in Kentucky by Burleson Farm & McKenzie Bloodstock. Okiro’s second dam is Canadian champion, three-time graded stakes winner, and millionaire Bear Now.

Yoshida, who stood the 2023 season for $10,000 S&N, was a Grade 1 winner on dirt and turf and earned more than $2.5 million in his career.
