Vinceremos to break from Gate 9 in Kentucky Derby 140

WinStar Farm, along with co-owners Twin Creeks Racing, team up with trainer Todd Pletcher for this year’s Kentucky Derby (G1) with Vinceremos, who breaks from post 9 in the field of 20 for Saturday’s first leg of the Triple Crown.

WinStar and Pletcher won the Derby in 2010 with Super Saver, who now stands stud at the farm.

Pletcher was pleased with the outcome of the post position pill pull. “That’s a good spot for him. We did well with our draw,” Pletcher said succinctly.

Vinceremos returns to the traditional dirt surface after an off the board finish in the Blue Grass S. (G1) over Keeneland’s Polytrack last month. Prior to that, the son of Pioneerof the Nile has a pair of wins and two seconds over the dirt, including a victory in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay Downs. He has earned a total of $225,266 in his five lifetime outings.

Vinceremos will be ridden by Joe Rocco Jr. on Saturday.

Pioneerof the Nile, who stands this year at WinStar for $20,000 live foal, is one of the hottest young sires of 2014. He ranks second on the Second-crop Sire list and is one of only two sophomore stallions with progeny earnings over the $1 million mark.
