Waggley, who was Life Is Good’s first starter and winner when she broke her maiden April 8 at Keeneland, became her sire’s first stakes winner April 29 with a 1 ¾-length victory in the $250,000 Kentucky Juvenile S. at Churchill Downs.
Facing just a pair of foes following numerous scratches due to the sloppy racetrack, Waggley was a close second to Super Saiyjin through the first three furlongs. The duo were side-by-side coming into the stretch before Waggley began to edge away in the final furlong and stopped the timer in 1:00.37 for the five furlongs on a sloppy track.
Waggley is trained by Wesley Ward for Ten Broeck Farm, Inc., who purchased the bay filly for $200,000 at the 2025 Keeneland September sale. Undefeated Waggley has earned $208,405 in his two victories.
Fred Hertrich III and John Fielding bred Waggley out of the winning Malibu Moon daughter Lunar Empress, who also is the dam of grade 3-placed stakes winner Henry Q.
As reported by the TDN and according to Bloodstock agent Ben McElroy moments after Wednesday’s race, Royal Ascot may be among options for Waggley’s next start.
A four-time Grade 1 winner in an exceptional racing career, Life Is Good won the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) by 5 ¾ lengths—the largest margin of victory in the 2021 Breeders’ Cup; the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational S. (G1) in 2022 over Horse of the Year Knicks Go; and recorded impressive front-running victories in the Whitney S. (G1) and the Woodward S. (G1). All told, Life Is Good won 9-of-12 starts, and amassed earnings of $4,541,700 for CHC Inc. and WinStar Farm.
