Webslinger a commanding winner of the $225,000 Audubon S.

Constitution’s formidable grass 3-year-old was much the best in winning the June 3 Audubon S. at Churchill Downs, closing with a rush and winning geared down by 1 ¼-lengths.

Webslinger, who won the American Turf (G2) on Kentucky Derby Day, is 4-2-1 in nine starts and has earned $860,320 for D. J. Stable LLC.

Webslinger, breaking from the outside in the field of seven travelling 1 1/16-miles, traveled in midpack until midway on the final turn, when he came four wide with a swift move to take the lead at the top of the stretch. He wasn’t seriously threatened in the lane as he stopped the timer in 1:49.87 for the 1 1/8-miles on the firm turf.

“I thought Javier gave him a beautiful trip in this race that was very paceless,” said David Carroll, assistant to trainer Mark Casse. “He’s a horse that each time you run him he seems to get better. He’s proven that in his last couple of efforts, but today’s race was a bittersweet one. Lois Green (owner of D J Stable with her husband), who was the matriarch of the owner’s family, died earlier this week. She was a wonderful woman and our heart goes out to the entire Green family during this time. Hopefully, this win was able to give them a little bit of happiness during a difficult week for their family.”

Webslinger, out of the Hard Spun mare Arana, was bred in Kentucky by Ken and Sarah Ramsey.

Carroll said Webslinger could potentially make his next start at either Belmont or Saratoga in New York’s turf series for 3-year-olds.

Webslinger is one of seven stakes winners and 17 stakes horses in 2023 by Constitution, both the top number for all Fifth-Crop sires.
