WinStar duo headlines $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1)

Carpe Diem and Daredevil top perhaps the deepest field in the history of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). Both of the WinStar-connected 2-year-olds are Grade 1 winners and are the top two choices on the morning line for Saturday’s 1 1/16-mile contest, scheduled for 2:45 p.m. ET at Santa Anita Park.

WinStar Farm acquired half interest in undefeated Champagne S. (G1) winner Daredevil in a partnership with Let’s Go Stable in a deal that was announced just last Friday. The flashy colt is by More Than Ready. His 107 Beyer earned in the Champagne is easily the highest figure earned by a 2-year-old this year. Trained by Todd Pletcher, Daredevil drew post 12 as the 7-2 second choice.

Carpe Diem, owned by WinStar and Stonestreet Stables is the 4-1 third choice fresh off his victory in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland. A $1.6-million co-sale topper at the 2014 OBS March Sale, where he was purchased by Stonestreet, Carpe Diem is a half-brother to 2010 Futurity winner J. B.’s Thunder.
