Norm’s Passion turns up heat at Del Mar

Norm’s Passion, a 2-year-old Artie Schiller colt, cruised to a sharp-looking 4 1/4-length victory at Del Mar to break his maiden in his second lifetime start. The dark bay is the fifth winner for his sire, who is a top 10 second-crop sire this year, over the long Labor Day weekend.

The win for Norm’s Passion came in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight dash. Breaking smartly from post 7, he went right to the lead, holding a length margin around the turn. He put away the field with a quick burst coming into the lane and finished in a time of 1:02.98, just a fifth-second off the track record and earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 90.

Trainer Jeff Bonde and Mersad Metanovic bought Norm’s Passion for $44,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic spring sale in May. The Kentucky bred colt is the first foal out of six-figure earner Millionairess.
