Congrats gets pair of 2yo MSW at Saratoga

Congrats registered the rare feat of having a pair of maiden special weight 2-year-old winners on the same day at Saratoga on Friday, with both winning on the turf and by a nose in tight photos.

To top off the illustrious day, Magnificient Margo became the first filly to beat colts in the 24 maiden races run to date at the upstate New York track this meet.

Lamontagne kicked off the fireworks in the second race with a front-running score at 5 1/2-furlongs (VIDEO). The colt is owned by his trainer Wesley Ward and was a $95,000 auction by at last October’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Yearling sale.

Two races later, Magnificent Margo repeated the score at the same distance and surface, but came from just off the pace to get up in the final stride (VIDEO). Trained by Mike Maker for Jeff Drown, Magnificent Margo sold for $85,000 at the OBS Spring 2-year-old sale this past April. Out of Holy Miss, the Florida-bred filly is a half-sister to five-time stakes winner General Charley and stakes winner Truly Lucky.

Congrats now has five 2-year-old winners with earnings of nearly a quarter-million dollars, both in the top 15 in their respective categories on the 2014 Juvenile Sire list.
