Audible filly kicks off 2024 with second straight stakes win

My Mane Squeeze rallied to win the $100,000 Franklin Square S. Sunday at Aqueduct to begin her 2024 campaign where she left off last year – with a stakes victory.

After winning the $200,000 Maid of the Mist S. on Oct. 29, My Mane Squeeze got a brief freshening before her return on Sunday. She settled back in fifth, about four lengths off the lead as the field made its way up the backstretch. She advanced three wide on the turn to be less than a length from the lead entering the homestretch.

A battle for the lead with Bernietakescharge as the duo pulled away from the field. My Mane Squeeze got the better of her foe in the final sixteenth to win by 1 ¼-lengths in 1:18.76 for the 6 ½-furlongs on a fast track.

“She broke very good and I got a chance to put her outside in the clear,” said winning rider Jose Lezcano. ”She traveled very comfortable. In the stretch, I asked her to go on and she gave me what she’s got.”

My Mane Squeeze is trained by Mike Maker for breeder/owner William Butler. The 3-year-old filly is now 3-0-2 in five starts and has earned $238,960.

After finishing as a top-10 First-Crop sire of 2023, Audible is off to a hot start this year and is in the top five on the Second-Crop list with a pair of stakes horses in the first two weeks of the year.
