$340K for Pioneerof the Nile Keeneland 2YO

A colt from the first crop of WinStar Farm stallion Pioneerof the Nile brought the highest price of any freshman stallion at the Keeneland April 2-year-old sale, with impressive winning bid of $340,000. This was one of the top 10 prices paid at the one-day event on April 8.

Pioneerof the Nile, who stands this year at WinStar for $15,000 LFS&N, has been a big hit at the sales this spring, including a session-topping $350,000 filly at the OBS March Select 2-year-olds in Training sale.

Purchased by Twin Creeks Racing, Wavertree Stables, Inc. consigned hip No. 72 at Keeneland; the dark bay or brown colt is out of Kettle’s Sister, who is by fellow WinStar sire More Than Ready. Kettle’s Sister’s siblings include the graded stakes-placed duo of Kettle Won and Cognac Kisses and comes from the same family of Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner and champion Safely Kept.

Pioneerof the Nile had four horses sell Monday at Keeneland, for gross receipts of $825,000, and an average of $206,250, more than 13 times his current stud fee.
