Bluegrass Cat gets first winner
Friday, April 23, 2010
Bluegrass Phenom won the fourth race on Friday at Keeneland Race Course in her career debut and became the first winner for Grade 1 winner and dual classic-placed Bluegrass Cat.

Trained by Tom Amoss for owner Bill Hayes, Bluegrass Phenom made all the pace en route to a 1½-length win. Bred in Kentucky by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Bluegrass Phenom covered 4½ furlongs in :52.03 on the synthetic Polytrack surface. She is one of six winners from seven starters out of the winning Rubiano mare Reboot, the dam of multiple stakes winner Summer Cruise and Group 1-placed winner Rebuttal.

Bluegrass Cat, a seven-year-old by Storm Cat out of the unraced A.P. Indy mare She’s a Winner, stands for an advertised fee of $25,000 at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Kentucky. He has 118 two-year-olds in his first crop.

A WinStar Farm homebred, Bluegrass Cat posted fives wins and four seconds from 11 career starts and earnings of $1,761,280 in two seasons of racing. Bluegrass Cat won the 2006 Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) as well as the ’05 Remsen (G2) and Nashua (G3) Stakes. He also finished second in both the ’06 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) and Belmont Stakes (G1).
