Burban stirs up stakes win at Aqueduct

Speightstown, America’s second-leading sire of 2013, got another stakes winner on Thursday at Aqueduct when Burban took the $75,000 Break Through S. for her first career added-money victory (VIDEO).

At the outset of the six-furlong Break Through, Burban chased pacesetter D’princess down the backstretch in the two path, came to even terms without urging just prior to the stretch run, then drew clear in the final furlong to win by a length and a half in 1:11.48 on a fast track.

Five-year-old Burban won for the fourth time in six starts and has now bankrolled $166,440 for her owner Joseph Sutton. The Kentucky-bred, the first foal out of the stakes-winning mare Horse B With You, was purchased by her owner for $90,000 at the 2009 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

Speightstown, who stands this year at WinStar Farm for $60,000, has 47 winners to date this year, also second-best on the General Sire list. His progeny have earned in excess of $2.8 million in 2013, led by Reynaldothewizard, winner of the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen S. on March 30.
