Exaggerator lands post 11 for Kentucky Derby (G1)

Future WinStar stallion Exaggerator is right in the middle of the field in the gate for Saturday’s $2 million Kentucky Derby (G1) getting post 11 in the field of 20 3-year-olds. He is the second choice on the morning line at 8-1.

The dark bay colt, who runs in the name of Big Chief Racing and Head of Plains Partners LLC, is trained by Keith Desormeaux, brother to jockey Kent, a three-time Derby winner.

“I’m fine with it,” said trainer Desormeaux after Wednesday afternoon’s draw. “Kent seems a bit concerned because he’ll have to wait some after they load. But I don’t see a problem. The horse is as cool as a cucumber. It’ll be fine.”

Exaggerator has been consistently good at the top levels of the game, winning the Saratoga Special (G2) in just his third start, taking the Delta Jackpot (G3) in November, and most recently the Santa Anita Derby (G1), where he earned a 103 Beyer Speed Figure, highest for any horse in the Kentucky Derby field.

WinStar recently announced that Exaggerator will stand at the Versailles, KY farm at the conclusion of his racing career.

The Kentucky Derby is race 12 on Saturday, with a scheduled post time of 6:34 p.m. ET. NBC television coverage runs from 4 – 7:30 p.m.
