Golden Ticket takes Churchill feature

Speightstown’s Grade 1 winner Golden Ticket scored a sharp victory in the May 2 feature race at Churchill Downs, covering the one-mile in a lively 1:34.56 to win by 2 ½ lengths.

A dead-heat winner of last year’s $1 million Travers S. (G1), Golden Ticket took Thursday’s money allowance race with a three-wide move on the turn, then collared Grade 3 winner Shared Property at the eighth pole to draw clear late.

Bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, Golden Ticket has a record of 4-4-3 in 16 starts for Magic City Thoroughbred Partners. The 4-year-old colt was a $100,000 purchase out of the 2011 Keeneland April sale of 2-year-olds in training.

Trained by Ken McPeek, Golden Ticket could possibly make his next start in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster H. in June at Churchill.
